Each year my hubby creates a handcrafted item from recycled wood for the graduates that are members of "our" church! Also if we are fortunate enough to have a graduate in the family, that graduate will also receive one of the very carefully crafted gifts!
What has he used for the gifts of this year(?), a piece of tree that has fallen away from the cuttings of a huge tree on our son's property. Also if any of you have ever noticed those very large wooden spools that hold the wire for utility companies when they are doing exterior wire installations, well the inside of those spools when taken apart are shaped with a gentle curve...thus why they are called spools! With much patience and a creative mind they can become most anything you like!
I would be remiss in not mentioning the Cross, this is made with *square headed* nails that have been removed from the old wood of the barn that my son is refurbishing. Before the rotting wooden boards were discarded from the barn project, buckets of these antique square headed nails were removed, and my hubby then cut and *braised* to create the shape of the Cross!
God has blessed my hubby with a creative mind and the talents to do so many things, and also has allowed his health to return to be able to continue the tradition of being the "craftsman" that enjoys his hobby of woodcrafting!

Barb, those are so nice! They look like they have taken a steady hand and real imagination...plus lots of work. Are they as silky smooth as they look?
Those are gorgeous, your husband is a craftsman indeed. What treasured gifts those are, heirlooms to be cherished!
